It all started when…
Marie McCausland graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 2012, with Bachelor’s degrees in Genetics and Biochemistry and minors in Microbiology and Political Science. McCausland finished her PhD in Molecular Virology in 2017 from Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Cleveland, Ohio, where she continued as a Postdoctoral Fellow. She has recently returned to school at Kent State University to pursue a Master’s in Public Health.
McCausland is the current Co-President of the CWRU Postdoctoral Association and the Co-Chair of the Women’s Initiative Committee. Additionally, McCausland serves as the Postdoc Representative on the Women’s Faculty Senate and the Full Faculty Senate.
Following the birth of her son in 2017, McCausland experienced a near-miss due to Post-Partum PreEclampsia. Since then, she has dedicated significant time and resources toward ending motherhood mortality in the city of Cleveland and across the Nation. McCausland served as a Spokesperson for Merck for Mothers from 2018-2019, and has won both the 2019 Advocate of the Year award from Mom Congress and the 2019 Maternal Health Maverick award from Merck for Mothers.
McCausland most recently spoke on her experience and the importance of sharing your story at the TEDxCWRU event on November 16th.
McCausland lives in Cleveland with her wonderful son, Little Jeff, and her smart and talented husband, Big Jeff.
